This Safari Package option takes you to Nyungwe National Park and Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. First day is for transferring to Nyungwe National Park, you will do a canopy Walk on the second day Next day you will drive to Volcanoes for two nights and you will do gorilla trekking, and transferring back to Kigali on the Last day and fly out back home

Day 1: Pick up from your hotel/Airport Kigali and drive to Nyungwe forest National Park

Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by our professional tour guide who will take you for a city excursion in and around Kigali. This is to enable you orient yourself with this great country of ‘a thousand hills. After this excursion, you will proceed to Nyungwe forest National Park, Nyungwe is rich in biodiversity and spectacularly beautiful. The mountainous region is teaming with wildlife, including a small population of chimpanzees as well as 12 other species of primate, including the L’Hoest’s monkey endemic to the Albertine Rift.

Day 2: Canopy Walk experience in Nyungwe forest

Today, Morning, you head out for the canopy walk experience. Suspended above a ravine in the lush montane rainforest of Nyungwe National Park, the canopy walkway provides an exhilarating perspective on the ancient treetops and wildlife. The 160m long and 70m high suspension bridge is accessible as part of a guided tour along the Igishigishigi trail, or to those hiking the Imbaraga or Umuyove trails. Along the hour’s walk to the canopy walkway from the Uwinka Reception Centre, you will see countless butterflies, orchids and colourful birds, including many endemics to the region. There are 8am / 10am / 1pm /3pm canopy walk sessions in Nyungwe.

Day 3: Drive to Volcanoes National Park 

After breakfast, you will transfer to Volcanoes National Park passing through the beautiful landscapes viewing the beautiful scenery, enroute lunch and later proceed to Volcanoes National Park, check in and if time allows, you will have a cultural experience by the Iby’lwachu village, you will have an opportunity of participating in the cultural dances with the indigenous people of Rwanda

Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park 

Early morning benefit from a tasty breakfast at the lodge before your first exciting morning drive through the Switzerland of Rwanda Park that is too clear in the indigenous forest for Gorilla trekking and draws one to the real side of natural beauty. You will be briefed at the park headquarters and later depart for the gorilla trekking experience alongside the ranger guides. Once you find them, you will spend one hour with them taking pictures and later you will return to the starting point and embark on your vehicle and drive to the lodge for overnight

  • Accommodation Options: Please choose the accommodation that suits your budget, these destinations have all options of Budget, Midrange and Luxury.
  •  Means of Transport: You can opt to drive. For budget clients, we recommend using a safari 4×4 safari van to reduce on the cost, for mid range and luxury clients we recommend 4×4 safari Land cruisers. All vehicles are comfortable with enough leg room, AC and are driven by our professional driver guides. 
  • Cost of chimpanzee trekking permit: permits in Nyungwe National Park are $250 for foreign nonresidents, $75 for foreign residents, and $25 for East Africans
  • Gorilla permits: We encourage you to book gorilla permits in advance so that we secure your trekking spot. Gorilla permits are served on first come first serve by Rwanda Development Board (RDB). Please contact us so that we book them for you
  • Cost of the gorilla permit: The gorilla permits in Rwanda cost USD1500 for Non-Foreign residents, USD500 for East African Foreign Residents, USD200 East African
  • Physical Fitness: Gorilla trekking can be physically demanding, a certain level of fitness will be required, please ensure you are in good health and have a certain level of fitness before you leave your country
  • Age Limit: The Minimum age for gorilla trekking in Uganda is 15 years and above, please ensure all travellers are aged 15years and above
  • Chances of Seeing the Gorillas:  The chances of seeing gorillas are 98% because there are trackers who follow the movement of gorillas on a daily basis, they communicate to the Park guides and you walk in the direction they are
  • Choose a gorilla family: You can choose your preferred gorilla family of the day of the trek, if you prefer a close/ easy trek due to your fitness level, please request it  and communicate to your guide
  • Other activities: There are several activities you can do in Volcanoes National Park; namely Birding, Ibya’ iwachu cutural experience, Nature walks, Community visits.  All these can suppliment your gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park

What to pack

  • Clothing: Long trousers, long-sleeved shirt (in neutral colors), thick socks, and a lightweight rain jacket.
  • Footwear: Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots are essential for the often slippery and muddy trails.
  • Gloves: Gardening gloves are recommended for gripping vegetation.
  • Other gear: A wide-brimmed hat, insect repellent, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and a camera with extra batteries.
  • Other essentials: Passport, travel documents, and some local currency for tips. 
  • Best time to visit: this destination can be visited all year round, The most preferred time is June to September, December to February because they are the drier months of the year.
