Tour Summary

A 5-day Maasai Mara and Amboseli honeymoon safari takes you to Kenya’s two most visually spectacular landscapes. This iconic pairing balances the big-cat action of the Masai Mara National Reserve with the majestic elephant herds of Amboseli National Park, all set against the romance of a towering Mount Kilimanjaro backdrop. To make this combination work seamlessly in just 5 days, internal bush flights are essential to skip the 8-hour overland drive between the parks.

Day 1: Fly to the Mara and Sunset Champagne.

On the first day of the safari, board a morning safari flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport (WIL) directly into Masai Mara. Your private guide will pick you up from the airstrip for an introductory game drive on the way to your luxury camp.

End your first evening with a private sundowner toasting champagne as the sun sinks below the acacia-lined. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Full day in Masai Mara National Reserve.

Spend a full day exploring the Mara’s rich plains. Your private 4×4 allows you to set the pace as you track lions, leopards, and cheetahs hunting across the open savanna.

Later, enjoy a private gourmet picnic lunch set up by your guide under a lonely desert date tree, deep in the wild. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Fly via Nairobi to the Land of Giants (Amboseli).

Fly out of the Mara back to Nairobi, where you will seamlessly connect to a flight down to Amboseli National Park. As you descend, the massive, snow-capped dome of Mount Kilimanjaro fills your window.

Arrive at your luxury lodge in time for a game drive, tracking Amboseli’s famous “Super Tusker” elephants against the volcano backdrop. Later dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Full day in Amboseli National Park.

Wake up early for the ultimate view: Mount Kilimanjaro is clearest in the morning before clouds roll in. Watch elephant families cross the dry lake bed with the mountain behind them. In the afternoon, start on an intimate guided nature walk with a local Maasai tracker.

Later a private, romantic candlelit dinner served on the veranda of your luxury tent, listening to the sounds of the African night. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Departure.

Enjoy one final sunrise breakfast looking at Kilimanjaro before a short morning game drive to the airstrip. Board your bush flight back to Nairobi for your international connection home.

Because this itinerary has two distinct geographic regions in a tight timeframe, carefully consider these logistical factors:

Fly, Don’t Drive: Driving from the Masai Mara to Amboseli takes roughly 8 to 9 hours over bumpy roads and through Nairobi traffic. It will completely ruin a 5-day itinerary. Budget for the direct or connecting bush flights via Nairobi (offered by airlines like Safarilink or Airkenya) to keep the trip romantic and relaxed.

Kilimanjaro is Bashful: Do not expect to see Mount Kilimanjaro clear in the sky all day long. The mountain creates its own weather, and by 9:00 AM, it is usually completely shrouded in thick clouds. Plan your photography and romantic viewings strictly around dawn and dusk.

Strict Luggage Limits: The small planes connecting the Mara and Amboseli enforce a strict 15 kg (33 lbs) weight limit per person, including hand luggage. You must bring soft-sided duffel bags; hard suitcases with wheels cannot fit into the planes’ cargo pods and will be left behind.

Dust and Wind in Amboseli: Amboseli is famous for its contrasting landscapes lush, spring-fed swamps surrounded by dry, dusty plains. The wind coming off Kilimanjaro can create dust devils. Bring high-quality sunglasses, a light scarf/shuka to cover your face, and drops for dry eyes.

Seasonal Timing for Best Views: While wildlife is excellent year-round, the dry seasons (July to October and January to February) offer the clearest views of Mount Kilimanjaro and cause the elephants to concentrate heavily around Amboseli’s central swamps, making wildlife viewing effortless.
